Community & Elder Engagement
KCN brought Elders, leadership, and technical advisors together to document Traditional Knowledge, land use, occupancy, access, and community priorities connected to KCN’s traditional territory.

The Traditional Knowledge, Land Use, and Occupancy Study (TKLUOS) process helps ensure KCN’s knowledge, history, land use, and priorities are reflected in consultation, project review, environmental decision-making, and future land-use planning.

What Comes Next
2026 TKLUOS Gathering
In July 2026, KCN held an Elder and leadership gathering in Cranberry Portage to continue Phase One of the TKLUOS. Discussions focused on land use, important places, access, community knowledge, and areas requiring further documentation and review.
Next Steps
KCN will continue reviewing existing information, verifying findings with Elders and leadership, documenting additional Traditional Knowledge, and using the results to strengthen consultation and future decision-making. This is a long-term process that will require extensive community engagement, careful validation, and continued investment. KCN is committed to seeing this work through properly and looks forward to sharing progress with the community as the TKLUOS continues to develop.
