Kiciwapa Cree Nation and Hudbay Minerals Sign Exploration Agreement to Support Economic Growth and Reconciliation

In February 2025, Kiciwapa Cree Nation (KCN) proudly entered into an exploration agreement with Hudbay Minerals Inc. A partnership rooted in mutual respect, shared responsibility, and a commitment to reconciliation and sustainable development.

This agreement marks another significant milestone in the KCN's journey toward economic self-determination. It lays the foundation for meaningful collaboration in the responsible exploration of critical and precious minerals within KCN's Traditional and Ancestral territory.

Through this partnership, KCN is taking a proactive role in shaping its economic future. The agreement is designed to foster long-term community benefits by creating employment opportunities, enhancing local skills and capacity, and ensuring that development aligns with KCN’s cultural values and vision for the land and future generations.

Hudbay’s exploration activities will be conducted in close consultation with the Nation, following principles of environmental stewardship and respect for KCN’s rights and traditional knowledge.
