Kiciwapa Cree Nation and Kinross Gold Sign Exploration Agreement

Updated: Jul 28, 2025

Kiciwapa Cree Nation (KCN) is proud to announce the signing of a significant exploration agreement with Kinross Gold Corporation.

The agreement was formally signed during a traditional ceremony on June 12, 2025. Rooted in Cree customs and values, the event signified more than a legal partnership; it was a moment of cultural connection and shared commitment to reconciliation and sustainable development.

As part of the ceremony, traditional gifts were exchanged to honour the new relationship. KCN was presented with a commemorative partnership trophy engraved with the date and location of the signing. In return, KCN gifted Kinross Gold a carved wolf statue, symbolizing our Nation’s traditional clan animal.

The exploration agreement allows Kinross Gold to explore for critical and precious minerals within the traditional and ancestral territory of KCN, under a framework of mutual respect, transparency, and long-term benefit sharing.

Kiciwapa Cree Nation remains committed to protecting the land, water, and culture that sustain our people. This partnership is one more step toward building a strong and prosperous future.
